In the world of “religious” error, one refuses to ask many simple questions, one of these being, WHEN? But yet it is a very important question within the studies found in the Word of God.
Open your Bible and follow along as we allow the inspired text to guide us into all truth (John 16:13).
In 1 Corinthians 6:11 the Apostle Paul was speaking to Christians in order to instruct them of their salvation which had set them apart from their past sins (“and such were some of you”). We see Paul make reference to being “washed" (the exact moment in their lives in which they received forgiveness). And if we are to be honest in our search for truth we should ask WHEN where they “washed?” so as to follow the same very example today.
First let us quickly look at some instances WHEN being washed did not occur. It did not take place with a “sinner’s prayer” (Matt 15:8) and/or any works of merit (Eph 2:8). Being “washed” of sins did not happen with any doctrine concocted by the hands of men (i.e. “faith alone”).
Now, if we allow the Bible to speak we shall see the Apostle Paul’s example of conversion to which he was commanded to “wash” his sins away, WHEN? Acts 22:16 and various other verses plainly state, at baptism/immersion in water is the moment a person becomes a new born Christian (John 3:5).
However, there was a unique condition in submitting to being immersed, it had to have the authority of Jesus Christ, naturally so. Since Christ was crucified, buried and raised (1 Cor 15:1-4) we are commanded to call on His name for salvation through His gospel (Rom 1:16). WHEN? Again, Bible says this is to be administered at baptism (Matt 28:19, Acts 2:38).
There are thousands of examples of obedience to Christ’ gospel within the pages of the New Testament. Sadly, the blind following the blind never seem to read the context (Matt 15:14), and so they come up with erroneous traditions and rules (Mark 7:13) which are to be accursed (Gal 1:6-10).
Set yourself apart from "religious" error, turn from it (Luke 13:3) and be honest with yourself as you seek freedom from sin, your soul is very important to God.
Come hear the truth on all matters of faith (Rom 10:17)
The churches of Christ send greetings (Rom 16:16)
