To believe in the Son of God, Christ raised (1 Cor 15:1-4), is indeed to trust in His authority and obey His commands (John 14:15). We do so, not in order to boast merit for our works (Eph 2:8-9), but to show submission towards the love we have for our King, through obedience to His teachings/principles (John 14:23).
All who choose to reject belief in the Son of God turn to a dead faith (James 2:24) and will ultimately find eternal punishment in hell, everlasting torment (regardless of how “religious/saved/good” one may perceive himself/herself to be), “there will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth,” (Luke 13:27, Matt 7:23). Why? Because the unbeliever chooses death/sin/”religious” error instead of life/Christ (Rom 6:23). Sin separates us from what is good, God is good, and what is love? God is love (1 John 4:8).
“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, WHAT SHALL WE DO?” – (Acts 2:37) Pricked = Pierced, stung, sorrowful, *they now believed/trusted/had faith in the truth of the risen Savior, Christ.
But though they now believed/trusted/had faith in the risen Son of God, they still needed to have their sins erased (Acts 22:16). Hence the Apostle Peter inspired by the Holy Spirit into all truth (John 16:13), gave them the commanded instructions from Christ to repent/Luke 13:3 (change of mind/heart, turn away from sin/1 John 3:4), and be immersed in water/baptized (Acts 8:36, 10:47-48, Eph 4:5, Gal 3:27, Rom 6:3-4, Col 2:12, 1 Peter 3:21) in the name of (with the authority of/Matt 28:18) Jesus Christ ->FOR<- the forgiveness/removal/washing of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. – (Acts 2:38, John 3:5).
This gospel power of salvation was bled for (Acts 20:28) ALL nations (Rom 1:16, Mark 16:15-16) in order for us to be added (Acts 2:41) by the hand of God (Acts 17:24) to His spiritual church/house/kingdom (Acts 2:47), to forever remain faithful (Rev 2:10).
The question still remains the same of us today, “what shall we do?” …. Believe, or perish?
Note: Do not put your allegiance/trust in “religious” error passed down from your fathers (Matt 15:9). Be a free seeker (Luke 11:9), sober, honest, logical and reasoning with the inspired scriptures (Isaiah 1:18, 2 Tim 3:16). It will set you free (John 8:32).
We urge you to come hear the truth on all matters of faith (Rom 10:17)
The churches of Christ send greetings (Rom 16:16)
