Marriage, divorce, remarriage. A Bible response.
There is much confusion, doubt, and false teachings regarding this eternal topic. Please allow me to give you the Scriptural interpretation in simple format.
The law of creation and its function/nature was set and determined from the very beginning. Birth from the mind of God. These genesis laws found within the first few chapters are immovable. they are solid and trustworthy. the only way any of these laws can be altered is by God giving us an exception to the rule.
The law of creation and its function/nature, came prior to the patriarchs. prior to Moses and the commandments. These laws are to be set and settled for all time. And the only way one can break them is with a God ordered exception.
The law of creation and its function/nature is what God made in the beginning and intended to be forever more time while earth existed.
And within this impenetrable truth, fact, we find the law of man and woman becoming husband and wife, one flesh. Genesis 2:18 (compatible, suitable, complimentary), 21-24 (two leave four, and become one – husband and wife).
The supernatural source of pattern has designed an intelligent union which no man should separate. And from this recorded account we find a foundation in which we can always go to in order to know what God intended for mankind from the beginning.
Now mankind made a mess of this law throughout the ages. And you can read about that in the pages of the Old Testament regarding divorce and polygamy. Things that God never wanted for mankind but yet suffered it in a regulatory fashion because of the wickedness of mankind.
And so, we ask the Bible, “God, when did this new age begin which is now declared by Paul your servant in Acts 17:30? And He replies “go look at the Words of My Spirit found in Mt. 4:17, and 23, also chapter 28:20, and you shall gain insight and accuracy to the question.”
Three recorded accounts in which Christ reiterates the Law of creation and function His Father patterned from the very beginning. The law which must be respected and obeyed between man & woman, male & female, husband and wife. All other connections are perverted, corrupted.
1st location, Matthew 5:31-32
2nd Scriptural location is found in Matthew 19
We begin with the first section of this account, Mt. 19:3-6
3rd Scriptural location found in Luke 16:16-18
And so, pay attention. Nothing, absolute nothing that Paul or the other apostles have written in their letters, epistles, contradict what God and His Son have set forth regarding this matter. Which means you must revisit their accounts with the mind of Christ.
This law, once again, is for all mankind. And no amount of water can wash away an unrepentant adulterous sin (key word, “unrepentant”). If repentance does not take place, separation of the adulterous union (no longer living together, no longer fornicating), then the only thing water will be doing is getting you wet.
And God is well aware of the consequences that come when an adulterous union must be dissolved. We see such an account in Ezra chapter 10 regarding unions which had children. And though very difficult and challenging, Christians are to be there for each other when one of our own repents of an adulterous marriage which involved children. We must be courageous and strong in these times. This life is but a vapor, and nothing in it is worth losing our soul over.
And so, we can rest assured that what God teaches and commands regarding the union made between a man and woman is to be respected and obeyed. Or eternal consequences will be administered.
We pray this podcast session will help you in your faith. We cannot deny the truth, and I refuse to soften the eternal consequence in order to please men. God is good always. His mercy and judgment are paramount.
